Caregiver Activity Detection
Sovrinti Caregiver Tracking: Simplified
When you hire caregivers, you want to be sure they're doing their job properly. It can be hard to know for sure if they're spending the right amount of time with clients and doing the tasks they're supposed to. The Sovrinti system helps by keeping track of where caregivers are and what they're doing.
Background: Sovrinti uses advanced technology to figure out what specific people are doing in their homes. We tested it in a pilot program (2022-2023) with a big home care provider. The goal was to see how useful Sovrinti is and how it fits into the provider's work. We collected data over about 5 months from a caregiver working 20 hours a week with a 59-year-old client living alone.
Results:
Caregiver Presence: On average, the caregiver was detected in the client's home for about 4 hours per week, significantly less than their contracted 20 hours.
Activity Patterns: Increased activity in areas like the kitchen during meal times and the bathroom during showers suggests active involvement in tasks such as meal preparation and bathing assistance.
Gaps in Presence: There were instances when the caregiver's presence wasn't consistently detected, indicating potential gaps in care delivery.
Possible Interventions
The data suggests potential areas for improvement. Home care agencies could investigate schedule discrepancies, address gaps in caregiver presence through communication protocols, and explore ways to optimize caregiver efficiency. Additionally, focusing data analysis on key activities and setting thresholds for acceptable service levels can help identify areas where further interventions might be needed as well as ensure clients they receive the care they deserve.
For Further Analysis
We can dig deeper into specific activities, how much the caregiver moves around the client's home, their activity patterns, and any unusual events (like days when they're there for less time than expected or when they don't help with the client's shower).
Figure 1: This graph shows where the caregiver was each day from 11/12/22 to 4/22/23, with each ring representing one day. The caregiver's location device (PTag) was in the client's home about 4 hours a week on average.
Figure 3: This graph show the caregiver's activities. For example, when they're in the kitchen, there's more activity like opening the fridge or turning on the stove.
